Underworld

The Underworld - Conversations with the Keepers.

Greek mythology imbues bees with a complex symbolism that spans both life and death. The nectar of the Gods, Ambrosia, is often likened to honey, aligning bees with life and the divine. However, bees also became linked to death, as the Greeks believed that entrances to the Underworld were located in rock faces and caves - environments favoured by bees for constructing their hives. Such associations were further reinforced by the belief held by some Greek philosophers that humans could be reborn as bees after death. In addition, the Greeks believed that Cerberus, the guard dog of Hades, could be swayed by honey cakes, while Persephone, Hades' queen, was known as the "Honeyed One".
